Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) replaces the estrogen and progesterone your body makes less of during perimenopause and menopause. It is the most effective treatment for hot flashes and night sweats. BHRT Delivered provides HRT to Florida women online and in person at our Palm Beach County clinic, using bioidentical hormones and regular monitoring.
Hot flashes and night sweats
Trouble sleeping
Vaginal dryness and discomfort during sex
Mood changes and irritability
Low sex drive
Bone loss after menopause
Some of these have other causes too, such as thyroid problems, stress or medication. We look at your whole picture before recommending treatment.
HRT is generally a good option for women who:
Have menopause or perimenopause symptoms that affect daily life, and
Are under 60, or within 10 years of their last period.
Starting in this window gives the best balance of benefit and risk. Women who reach menopause early, before 45, are usually advised to take hormone therapy at least until the typical age of menopause, around 51.
Breast cancer or another hormone-sensitive cancer
A blood clot in the leg or lung
A stroke or heart attack
Unexplained vaginal bleeding
Active liver disease
Hormone Replacement Therapy offers a multitude of benefits, making it a valuable option for many women experiencing hormonal imbalances. Here are some of the key advantages:
HRT is highly effective in reducing common menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes, night sweats, and vaginal dryness. These symptoms can significantly impact a woman's quality of life, and HRT provides much-needed relief.
Estrogen plays a crucial role in maintaining bone density. By replenishing estrogen levels, HRT helps reduce the risk of osteoporosis and fractures, which are common concerns for postmenopausal women.
Hormonal imbalances can lead to mood swings, anxiety, and depression. HRT can help stabilize mood and improve overall mental well-being, contributing to a better quality of life.
Some studies suggest that HRT may have a protective effect on the heart, particularly when started early in menopause. It can help maintain healthy cholesterol levels and improve blood vessel function.
HRT can enhance sexual health by addressing issues such as vaginal dryness and decreased libido, leading to a more satisfying sexual experience.
Your plan may include one or more of these, depending on your symptoms and health history:
Estrogen (estradiol), which treats hot flashes, night sweats, vaginal dryness and bone loss. See estradiol.
Progesterone. If you still have your uterus, you need progesterone alongside estrogen to protect the uterine lining. See progesterone for women.
Testosterone, in low doses, for some women with low sex drive after menopause. See testosterone for women.
Free 15-minute phone consultation.
Lab testing. You choose where: at our clinic, at a Quest Diagnostics location near you, or with a mobile phlebotomist who comes to your home or office.
Your plan. A Florida-licensed provider reviews your symptoms, history and results with you, and recommends treatment only if it is appropriate.
Treatment. Pellets are placed at our clinic. Other medication ships to your Florida address.
Follow-up. We retest at 90 days and at 6 months, then every 12 months. We adjust your dose based on symptoms and results.
| Change | Typical Timing |
|---|---|
| Hot flashes and night sweats | 2 to 4 weeks, with full effect by about 3 months |
| Sleep | A few weeks |
| Vaginal dryness | Several weeks to a few months |
| Bone protection | Ongoing while you take it |
Common side effects when starting include breast tenderness, bloating, spotting and headaches. They often settle within the first few months.
More serious risks are uncommon but real:
Blood clots and stroke. The risk is slightly higher with estrogen, more so with tablets than with forms that are not swallowed.
Breast cancer. Taking estrogen and progestogen together for several years is linked to a small increase in risk.
Uterine cancer. Estrogen on its own raises the risk in women who have a uterus, which is why progesterone is added.
Risk depends on your age, your health and how long you take hormones. Your provider will go through your personal risks before you start, and review them every year.
HRT is not prescribed to prevent heart disease or memory loss.
Your first step is a free 15-minute phone consultation. There is no charge and no obligation.
